Sleep Concerts

Madrid, SPAIN: People take part in a sleeping concert in Madrid, 09 March 2007, the first of its kind in Spain. The concert sees Japanese pianist Mine Kawakami playing pieces with the intention of creating a relaxing atmosphere so that the spectators fall asleep.

Also in 2008 she performed "Los Conciertos del Sueño" in Spain, an experimental proposal born in Japan, which approached and emphasized concepts of musical therapy.

A similar event took place in Tel Aviv, Israel.  As part of a promo by a mattress manufacturing company, some 144 beds complete with pillows and blankets were laid out in the venue while the audience was treated to a classical music concert.
